Besides blogging, one of my new favorite hobbies is to sell things online (shout out to all the hustlers in the room!). I heard about Poshmark years ago but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to give it an honest try… and boy, I wasn’t let down! Over the last few months, I’ve spent a good amount of time trying to make sales and start turning clothes into cash. However, I’ve also learned a lot of tips so if you’ve been thinking about starting a Poshmark closet of your own, you should totally do it with the help of these tips!
Poshmark is an online clothing resale app that makes it super easy to sell your clothes for cash. It’s simple: you post clothes, someone buys your clothes, then Poshmark will email you a shipping slip, you put your item in a box and drop it in the mail! Poshmark will pay you when the buyer receives their items, and you can use those funds within the app to buy new clothes or cash out. Poshmark is really user-friendly for both the buyer and seller!

Tip #1: Take quality photos – and lots of them!
Think about it… would you buy something if only had one photo and it was dark with a mess in the background? Probably not. Well-lit and non-edited photos will best showcase your item. Make sure the background is clear and clean. Also, make sure to take as many photos as you can (front, back, sleeves, collar, tags, etc.).
I try to take my photos during the day so I can have good natural light photos. I know it can be difficult to find space to take the photos especially near a window but try using command strips! You can hang the clothing on the command strip almost anywhere to give you the ability to take a well-lit quality photo! I have also used a white poster board in the past to give me a clean white background for taking flat lays!
Tip #2: Be honest and descriptive in your listing.
You should post as much information as you have on the item in the listing. Whether there is a little hole in the jacket or maybe the tag is almost falling off. You could list the measurements, where you bought it from, the material on the item, etc. You just wanted to be as honest and detailed as possible! I love to keep my title pretty basic but then add all the specific details in the description. I’ve found this has worked great for my Poshmark account!
Tip #3: Don’t be afraid to set your prices high.
Never be afraid to set your prices high… you can always readjust your price if needed later down the road to sell your item. If you are not sure what to price your item at – here is my strategy. Before I list an item on Poshmark, I check to see how other sellers have it priced. I don’t want to have the highest price, but I want to be competitive while allowing myself room to lower the price. Anyone who “likes” your listing will receive an email notifying them of price drops, which is a great strategy to get someone to pull the trigger!
Tip #4: Follow other Poshers.
You don’t have to be friends or even know these people to follow them – you are following them because you want them to see your items! The more people you follow, the more people will follow you which will increase your sales. Why? Because people will share your items and help someone else discover your closet!
The best way I’ve found to follow people is to click on a Posher’s profile and click on their followers and following. Then I just click away and try to follow as many as possible! Trust me, in just a few minutes – you can follow hundreds of people!
Tip #5: Offer a bundle discount.
Although I don’t get a lot of bundle sales, I do sell offer a bundle discount to encourage my buyers to buy more and save more on my closet. You can set the percentage off a buyer would receive for however many items you decide (example: 10% off of 3 items). Once you have this activated, you can advertise it in your listings or your profile to encourage buyers to shop. You can turn it on and off whenever you’d like too with a simple tap on the app!
Tip #6: Respond to comments in a timely manner.
Poshmark allows you to ask questions and comment on listings. You should try to respond as soon as you can to increase your sales! However, the general etiquette is to respond in a business day. It reassures the buyer that your closet is active and you’re on top of your game!
One thing I always try to remember is that if I was the buyer – I would want answers in a timely manner. Communication is key to receiving a great review!
Tip #7: Reshare your listings as much as possible.
When you first post your listing, it is automatically shared with your followers. However, if you don’t share it again – it could get buried behind and never seen again. I try to reshare all my listings every day to maximize my sales. However, some days I don’t have time to share or some days I share time a couple of times. Just be mindful that you need to share your items. You could share every 10 days or every day – regardless, sharing it how you make sales!
Personally, I think people are most active early in the morning before work and during the day Monday through Friday.
Tip #8: List items you want to sell fast at the top of your page.
It’s obvious that people will see these items first and the most because they are at the top of your page. These items are the most likely ones to be shared if people are reciprocating your shares as well. I like to post my best items at the top of my page to encourage people to check out the rest of my closet!
Tip #9: Share other Posher’s listings too.
You want people to share your listings – they obviously want you to share theirs! I’ve noticed that if I share someone's listings they will share mine too. They are also more likely to follow you! I highly recommended sharing other Posher’s listings just as much as you share your listings!
Tip #10: Participate in parties as often as possible.
What are parties you might ask? It’s an event that Poshmark host for you to share certain items and they are seen by tons of people. Parties are held all the time but they have a designated style and party time.
It’s a great way to match buyers with sellers! For example, there might be a “J Crew Party” so you can only share J Crew items. People who love J Crew will be searching for clothes in the party and you’re more likely to make those sales!
Tip #11: Package your sales neatly and ship them fast!
You can really ruin a sale by shoving a pair of jeans in a small box and taking a week to ship it… make sure you neatly package your item and ship it as fast as possible. Poshmark uses USPS Priority shipping and thankfully, USPS offers those shipping boxes in various sizes for FREE. If you don’t have time to stop at the post office to pick them up, go to USPS.com to sign up for an account and have them shipped to you!
I love to keep boxes and tissue paper set aside to make the package and shipping process quick and easy!
Tip #12: Join a Poshmark Facebook group for help and guidance.
Just like anything else – there are many Poshmark groups on Facebook! I’ve joined a couple of groups and I’ve found them to be extremely helpful. They have share threads you can join and of course, you can ask questions about Poshmark! Many shares their thrift store finds and ask for help with authenticating items. Join a Poshmark Facebook group to network your closet!
