My Carry-On Bag Essentials

I will never forget the first time I flew in an airplane for travel. I think I was probably 18 or 19… and my boyfriend (now my husband) and I decided to flew to Ohio to see my family. Mind you, it was his first time flying as well. As two young lovebirds, we didn’t think we needed anything other than each other on the plane ride to my parents but boy, we were wrong!

Not only did I get hangry on the flight but I didn’t even have headphones, a notepad or a book! Andrew and I sat next to each other on the flight so luckily we could enjoy each other’s company and play tic-tac-toe on the drink napkin but boy, it sure made out flight drag out!  But now that we are constantly traveling for work and just our personal pleasure, we have become experts at packing a great carry on bag! So in efforts to help you avoid torturing yourself on a long flight with nothing but yourself, here are my essentials for our carryon bag!

Cell Phone/Tablet/iPod

Sometimes I love to talk to people on the plane but sometimes I don’t always get the pleasure of sitting next to someone that I like so having some type of electronic device is great. I love to listen to my favorite playlist, play my favorite trivia game and stroll through my pictures. Plus, you can write notes on your phone even without using Wi-Fi! But heck, nowadays airplane Wi-Fi prices are so cheap!

Headphones

You can’t listen to music without your headphones! You will be glad you backed this in your carryon bag – trust me!

Kleenex Wet Wipes

Andrew swears I’m a germaphobe but I can’t help it! Airplanes are notoriously germ infested and catching a cold on the start of your trip is no fun. Just like my momma, when I sit down in my seat on the airplane, I take out my Kleenex Wet Wipes Germ Removal to wipe down my tray, seat, and armrest! I seriously feel so much more comfortable once I do because I know that my area is clean and germ-free!

I also carry the Kleenex Wet Wipes Gentle Clean for my hands! Nothing is worse than having sticky hands after you buy a great airport expensive chocolate candy bar to enjoy! They think and soft enough to use for anything else too. I love Kleenex Wet Wipes because this new wet wipe kills 99% of germs and they don’t have the harsh chemicals that other wipes carry!

Plus, right now if you purchase 2 Kleenex Wet Wipes at Walgreens, you can receive a $1 Rebate through the Ibotta App!

Snacks

Let’s face it, those long lines at the airport can totally spark up anyone's appetite. Nothing is worse than me being hungry and trying to be patient at the airport or even on the plane! I also have granola bars, apple slices, and pretzel in my carryon bag!

Reusable Water Bottle

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you know that I love a great deal. Therefore paying $4 for water at the airport drives me up the wall! I can’t even imagine how much money we have saved by packing a reusable water bottle in our carry-on! Plus, it’s always nice to have it on the plane. Those flight attendants get so busy sometimes.

Lip Balm

I always carry lip balm in my carry-on bag because the inside of the plane cabin feels so dry. Plus, nothing is worse than having chapped lips and no lip balm to help soothe them!

Jacket/Sweater

I have never been on a hot airplane before… they always get so chilly! Of course, when you are boarding the plane it can get hot but it also gets cold. There is absolutely no chance of me sleeping or even being comfortable if I’m cold. So I always have a sweater in my carryon bag!

Book/Notepad

You need some type of entertainment on the plane. I love to make list (go figure) while on the plane. It’s the perfect time for me to just clear my head and write down anything that comes to my mind. I also love to read! So if you do too, pack a book!

Gum

Andrew has to have gum on the plane! His ears pop like crazy and the gum helps! Plus, gum is refreshing especially after enjoying those airplane snacks!

At the beginning of the month, I left Houston to spend the next 6 weeks in Anacortes, Washington for work. One of my favorite things about my “girl boss” job is that I get to travel so I always have my carry-on bag packed with my essentials. My flight travel time to Seattle was over 8 hours! It’s so important for my carry-on bag to have everything I need.

What do you pack in your carry-on bag?!
