Oh my gosh, the holiday season is here! I don’t know about you guys but I feel like our holiday expenses have doubled this year! Between gifts, traveling, food and activities, it all adds up so fast! Plus, It’s all too easy to get caught up in the spending cycle during the holidays. By saving and spending wisely, our holiday season doesn’t have to be a total budget-buster. Here are several ways to save your money during the holiday season!
Make a Budget.
Andrew and I are actually really good at making budgets. It’s so easy to create a budget. The way you create your budget is up to you, but one thing’s for sure: you need one. Create yours before the season hits full steam, and revisit it often to make sure you’re spending within your means.
Each month our biggest expense in our budget is on food. Even though there are only two of us, our grocery bills can be pretty large. Sometimes we go out to eat at restaurants more than we budgeted too or we eat out for lunch instead of packing lunch. One thing for sure, it’s easy to get off budget if you’re not watching what you are spending!
Cut Back on Extras.
This holiday seasons we are going to try and save money every way possible especially on food. We are not going to splurge at restaurants and we are going to meal plan our lunches! Getting lattes, splurging on a new pair of shoes for yourself, paying for valet parking at the mall is not necessary. We’re all guilty of indulging a little more than we should simply because it’s the holiday season!
However, cutting back on those extras can have a huge impact on your bottom line at the end of the month! That money could have paid for a few Christmas gifts, enough gas to get to your parent’s house, or even a nice donation to a charity of your choice. Before you splurge on a little treat or “extra” for yourself, be sure it’s really worth the price!
Despite all the planning though, groceries and gifts can still be expensive. That’s why I love catching a store sale, using coupons and using my new favorite rebate app, Hopster Mobile Rebates, to save money on our groceries! For those of you read my blog regularly, you know that I love to get the biggest bang for my buck!
One of my favorite things about Hopster is that you can find rebates for grocery stores, drugs stores, and even mass department stores! Hopster is my new savvy shopping buddy!
